A 30-YEAR-old unemployed man has been sentenced by the Magistrates’ Court yesterday to serve three months in jail for stealing two car batteries and an oven.
The court document states that the defendant Muhd Saifullah Hj Ahmad was seen stealing the two car batteries on January 4, from a house in Kg Kilugus Lumapas ‘A’.
The complainant’s brother, who lived next door, had informed the complainant that someone had taken the car batteries that were placed outside their house.
The defendant was caught by the owners of the stolen items when he was on his way to the scrap yard in Kg Kilanas.
The complainant’s husband had stopped the defendant’s vehicle by blocking his car and contacted the police. When the police arrived, they found two car batteries and an oven in the defendant’s car.
It was revealed that the defendant saw the car batteries outside the garage and knocked on the door. However, when nobody answered, the defendant proceeded to take the two car batteries.
Muhd Saifullah had also stolen an oven in the early morning of January 4, when he went to Kg Lumapas and saw the oven placed outside a house. The defendant had knocked on the door of the house but when it was not answered, he proceeded to take the oven and placed it into the car and then drove away.
The complainant subsequently lodged a police report upon realising that his oven was missing.
During the proceedings yesterday, the court ordered the defendant to serve the three-month jail term with immediate effect and all of the stolen items to be returned to its rightful owners.
